Another naked cannibalistic zombie attack, this time in Hawley, Pa. Police say Twenty year-old Richard Cimino Jr. allegedly attacked two police officers and a woman – chewing on her head while screaming like an animal.

At about 5 a.m., Cimino stripped naked, then tried to break into a residence. Occupants told him to leave, so he left and broke into another home and jumped from a second story window. According to police, Cimino severely injured himself in the fall, but kept going.

He then reportedly attacked a woman the street, covering her with his blood and gnawing on her head while screaming like an animal/

The women eventually escaped and called police,. Officers located Cimino lying on the road, severely injured and displaying “delusional behavior.” Officers hit him with a Taser, yet Cimino managed to punchone of them before he was arrested.

Police don’t yet know if Cimino was on drugs during the incident, and Pennsylvania police told The Huffington Post today that he’s still in the hospital. He faces two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, indecent exposure and criminal mischief, plus three counts of burglary and one count each of criminal trespass and defiant trespassing.

Whilst watching another vacuous campaign ad recently, I had a revelation: There’s nothing these guys are doing that I can’t do. Campaigning seems to consist largely of walking around in a dress shirt with the top button undone, talking about things that worry people, then smiling and shaking their hands. I looked in my closet…I have dress shirts! I can talk about things! I can worry people, just ask my neighbors! I enjoy touching people that I’ve never met before! I can talk smack about the other candidates! Clearly, it’s time to take action.

The national debt, crime, political corruption; I can obfuscate around these topics as well as any other candidate, and I can do so without the added hindrance of a law degree from Harvard or a stellar career in finance. Most important, I ‘m not afraid to address the real issue that everyone else has been tap-dancing around: The pending (and awesome) Zombie Apocalypse.

The two-party system has failed us for long enough. In the interest of freedom, democracy, and keeping things awesome, I have decided to represent the Zombie Prep Network as candidate for President of the United States of America. Instead, a condition known about for 150 years, and studied by the University of Miami for the last ten is to blame. That condition is called excited delirium.

So if this zombie-like condition has been known to science and the police for 150 years, why then did Miami police originally link the attack to cocaine psychosis, then LSD, then bath salts? Who knows.

One of the things that can cause excited delirium is stimulant abuse, particularly PCP, cocaine, or methamphetamine. However, people can have excited delirium with no drug use.

Why so many zombie incidents in Florida? Again, no idea.

The symptoms of excited delirium include:

• Paranoia
• Disorientation
• Hyper-aggression
• Tachycardia
• Hallucination
• Incoherent speech or shouting
• Superhuman strength when trying to be restrained
• Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia would explain why some of these zombie attackers tear off their clothes and attack naked.

Whether you’re running away from a horde, or being shot at by some human survivors, you need to move towards cover and concealment.

Understanding the difference between cover and concealment could save your life.

Basically:

1. Concealment: you hide from the zombies

2. Cover: you have a physical barrier between you and the zombies that prevents attack

If you consider that, in a post ZPOC world, humans might be more dangerous than Zeds, you might also need protection from gunfire. In this case, distance and cover are going to be your best friends.

You need to move, placing distance and cover between you and a threat.

Let’s say that a horde is after you. Look for the closest safest cover or concealment you can find and run for it, if it is safe to do so. Once there, look for the next area to run through – trying to put as much distance between you and the threat as possible.

This is the best strategy for surviving zombie attacks:

After revealing that the Miami, face-eating zombie, Rudy Eugene, was not on bath salts, the Internet is abuzz with viral rumors.

LQP-79 was supposedly a new contagion that was turning peaceful people into zombie-like cannibals

The truth is that LQP-79 was an Internet hoax. It spread with lightning speed due to the sensational nature of the news, and the human desire to have easy explanations. The coroner’s office has no explanation for the attack in Miami.

Viruses and Zombies

Movies are full of infectious agents creating undead hordes. The Resident Evil franchise is a notable example – and I should point out that I’ve had a crush on Milla Jovovich since The Fifth Element.

Could something like that really happen?

We’ll there are examples of biological organisms manipulating host behavior. There are fungi and even wasps that manipulate the behavior of insect hosts to better their chances of survival. Rabies is an example of a virus which makes infected animals more aggressive, increasing the chance of the disease spreading.

Baculoviruses infect caterpillars. The caterpillars change their behavior and climb to the top of their tree. Once there, the virus releases an enzyme which dissolves the caterpillar, spreading the virus over the leaves below. Thus, the chance of infecting other caterpillars is increased.

Fortunately, baculoviruses are completely adapted to invertebrates, so the chance of mammals being affected is very rare. In fact, they are used in pest control for farms.

Reanimating The Dead

No known virus, or other infectious agent can reanimate the dead. In fact the CDC responded to the zombie virus panic by releasing a statement that no such thing existed. This is ironic, since the CDC itself released posters and training material on how to deal with a zombie pandemic.

The issue is that zombies might not strictly be reanimated dead. A more modern, and less superstitious definition is a mindlessly aggressive human driven by biological infection.

We here at ZPN believe that the biological driver for mindlessly aggressive human behavior could be: chemical/pharmacological, viral, bacterial, technological, fungal, or prion based. This creates a lot of potential vectors for the ZPOC.

If an infectious agent is the driver, then the problem will be human to human spread (or animal to human spread). Movies have zombies creating other zombies through bites. This is one way viruses spread, but remember some are airborne or spread through indirect contact (touching something an infected person touched).

One thing is for sure, when the ZPOC comes, hygiene is going to be important.

You see, no matter how they got zombified – those undead mother******s have to still ambulate and eat. They also must have some kind of instinct for food. As simple as that is, that means brain power.

Understanding how the recently rotten think, if you can call it that, is important to survival. Why? Cause you gotta understand your enemy and all that shit.

It’s important to understand why zombies:

• Don’t respond to pain
• Show no human emotion
• Disregard their own safety
• Show no capability for abstract thought or future plannin

Heck, who needs future planning when you’re already dead? Am I right?

Anyhoo, we turn to our old friend science to explain this key zombie survival lesson.

Presenting the triune brain. A model of brain evolution which might explain zombie behavior to some extent.

Police first theorized that Eugene, who was naked during he attack, was suffering from cocaine psychosis. This was quickly followed by another theory that the synthetic stimulant known as “bath salts” was to blame. Both theories have been proven wrong by an autopsy and toxicology report. The bath salts theory was put forth by the Armando Aguilar, the president of Miami’s Fraternal Order of Police  and not based on any evidence at hand.

The Miami Dade coroners office went as far as hiring an outside forensic toxicology lab.They report that no drugs, apart from marijuana were found in Eugene’s system.

This quickly led to bath salts being blamed for a slew of bizarre and often cannibalistic attacks across the country. One attack in Palmdale county occurred when a man stripped naked attacked his family, and bit a hunk out of another’s arm. In Waco Texas, another man killed and ate a family dig after attacking family members.

Congress has recently passed a bill federally  banning the chemicals marketed as bath salts, the bill awaits the president’s signature. The problem is that this knee-jerk legislation is based on conjecture and hype and no evidents. While Bath Salts may be a dangerous street drug, there is zero evidence they led to any of these attacks.

The cause of the zombie-like attack and other zombie incidents is still unclear, and may remain so. The coroner has no explanation for the violent animalistic behavior.

The Glock 17 is my personal choice for zombie apocalypse defensive pistol and here are some of the reasons I love it:

1. It’s reliable and low maintenance – when your life depends on a functioning firearm, Glocks have proven themselves to continue operating under the toughest conditions

2. It’s accurate. Out of the box, this is an accurate handgun. The Gen 4 models have a double recoil-reducing spring for easier control. The larger frame of the 17 spreads recoil out over a larger area.

3. They’re popular. Not an advantage in itself, but popularity means that a wide variety of accessories are available and stocked in most gun stores.

4. They have high capacity. Factory standard Glock 17s come with 3 17 round magazines. Factory manufactured 33 round magazines are available. This means that you can send more lead downrange before you need to reload. This offers a significant advantage against a zombie horde.

5. They are very low maintenance. They require little in the way of regular maintenance, and only three drops of lubricant. Field stripping is incredibly easy and takes seconds. After the SHTF, this is going to be a big advantage.

6. Ammunition is plentiful. 9mm Luger ammo is very popular and is quite plentiful. If you are scrounging ammo, this stuff has high availability. I have even seen it (along with 12 gauge shells, in my local hardware store. The ammo is also relatively inexpensive – making range time easier on the pocket.

Everything accounted for, you really can’t go wrong with the Glock 17 as a zombie survival weapon.

Witnesses then said that Daniel grabbed the family dog, beat and strangled it, and started to eat it.

Police say that Daniel had ingested “K-2,” a synthetic drug like Bath Salts. Daniel was taken to the hospital and now faces a felony charge for animal cruelty.

This case is reminiscent of the Miami and Palmetto Florida attacks where instances of cannibalism followed animal-like aggressive behavior, and were believed the result of synthetic drug use.
