Recent zombie attacks, starting with the Miami face chewing attack on Ronald Poppo by Rudy Eugene, were often linked with the drug bath salts. This just wasn’t the case, as the toxicology reports proved out.

zombie attack - Rudy Eugene and Ronald PoppoInstead, a condition known about for 150 years, and studied by the University of Miami for the last ten is to blame. That condition is called excited delirium.

So if this zombie-like condition has been known to science and the police for 150 years, why then did Miami police originally link the attack to cocaine psychosis, then LSD, then bath salts? Who knows.

One of the things that can cause excited delirium is stimulant abuse, particularly PCP, cocaine, or methamphetamine. However, people can have excited delirium with no drug use.

Why so many zombie incidents in Florida? Again, no idea.

The symptoms of excited delirium include:

    • Paranoia
    • Disorientation
    • Hyper-aggression
    • Tachycardia
    • Hallucination
    • Incoherent speech or shouting
    • Superhuman strength when trying to be restrained
    • Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia would explain why some of these zombie attackers tear off their clothes and attack naked.
